Overview
Every morning as the sun rises in Luang Prabang, hundreds of saffron-robed monks walk in silent procession to collect alms β one of the most enduring Buddhist traditions in Laos, and one of the quietest, most moving ways to start a day in this UNESCO-listed town. It begins on the main street and spreads to the side lanes; you kneel to present your offering of rice or fruit, and the monks collect the food that will make up their single meal of the day.
This is a sacred ceremony, not a photo opportunity, and doing it well matters.
