Meet our 25 Indochina guides — named, certified, bookable directly
On Viator, MakeMyTrip, GetYourGuide, and every other OTA, the guide is anonymous — assigned by algorithm, often a contractor, sometimes never met before by the operator. We're built differently. The senior guides are the operator's team. We know their families. They've been with us 7-15 years. When you book a tour with us, you're not buying a SKU — you're choosing a person.
The only DMC in Indochina with named, photographed, licensed guides
25 named, photographed, licensed guides across Hanoi · HCMC · Hoi An · Da Nang · Sapa · 7-15 years experience each · book by name with no premium · the only DMC in Indochina with this transparency.
This page is the most important page on our site for one reason: most tour buyers don't realise the OTA model is structurally anonymous. You book "Hanoi Old Quarter Food Walk · 4 hrs · $45" and a guide shows up. You don't know their name until they greet you. You can't verify their license. You have no recourse if the experience is mediocre.
We sell the same product — but you choose the person. Linh's family runs a banh mi shop on Hang Bac. Tuan was a Halong cruise captain for 5 years before guiding. Mai trained at Le Cordon Bleu Saigon. Phuong has a History MA from Vietnam National University and speaks French, English, and Vietnamese. Every senior guide on our team has been here 7-15 years — because we don't hire on commission, we hire on long-term fit, then we pay salary + benefits + leave so they don't burn out.
The trade-off: we can't undercut OTA prices by 30%. But you get a person — named, photographed, verifiable — instead of an algorithmic assignment. For multi-generational trips, language-specific travelers, and anyone who's been burned by an OTA tour, that trade is worth it.

How we hire · what "named guide" actually means
Editorial standards that separate ATL guides from contractor-pool guides at every OTA
Employees, not contractors
All senior guides are on Vietnamese labor contracts with salary + leave + benefits — not freelance per-tour. Same arrangement as the operator's office team. They don't churn between agencies; they stay because the work is steady and the pay isn't commission-only.
Vietnamese tour-guide license required
Every senior guide holds the Vietnamese yellow-card tour-guide license, verifiable through the National Administration of Tourism public registry. License numbers are on file at our Hanoi office. If a guide claims a credential we can't verify, they don't join the senior team.
Minimum 7 years guiding before joining
Senior team is not for new guides. We hire from inside the industry — guides who've already done 5-10 years for other agencies and want a permanent home with better terms. Bringing average 9 years' field experience on day one means no learning curve at your expense.
Multi-language proficiency certified
Language fluency claims are tested, not self-claimed. We run a 30-minute mock-tour conversation in the claimed language before the guide is listed as supporting it. If they can handle history questions, dietary nuance, and traveler-care moments fluently — yes. Otherwise we list them at "conversational" with a different tour assignment.

What "named guide" actually changes for your trip
Concrete differences vs OTA-anonymous tour bookings
You book by name
Pick the specific guide from our bio page · we confirm assignment in writing · no algorithmic substitution. If the guide is unavailable, we tell you the alternative by name before you pay.
Credentials are real
Years guiding · license number · education · publication credits — all on the bio page and verifiable. Hoang's BBC Travel credit is searchable. Mai's Le Cordon Bleu certificate is on file.
Long-term team
9-year average tenure means our guides have done your tour hundreds of times in every weather and group dynamic. They know which restaurants close on Tuesdays · which sites get busy at noon · which boats run on time.
WhatsApp follow-up
After the tour, the guide WhatsApps you their photos and notes from the day. Same person · same number · if you have a question 2 weeks later, you're still talking to them — not a generic OTA support queue.

What travellers said about our guides
★★★★★ verified-customer testimonials · NAMING the specific guide · attribution country + tour + date
"Phuong kept my 78-year-old mother and 9-year-old daughter equally engaged for 4 hours through Old Quarter — that's not luck, that's craft. She knew when to slow down for mom, when to hand the kid a banh mi to keep her happy."
"Booked Linh specifically for the food walk — best decision of the trip. She took us to her family's banh mi shop and her cousin's pho stall. None of this is on Viator."
"Mai's cooking class was a highlight. She accommodated my partner's nut allergy without making it weird and we left with recipes we still cook 6 months later."
"Tuan read the weather perfectly · we were the only group who got on the water that morning before the squall hit. 5 years as a cruise captain before guiding · the experience shows."
"Hired Hoang as a photographer-guide hybrid · came home with portraits we'd actually frame. He briefed us on lighting the night before and timed everything to golden hour."
"Booked through Viator first, switched to ATL after a friend recommended. The difference is the named-guide model — I know who's meeting me and why she's good. Would never go back."
Mike Nguyen · ATL DMC founder
I personally vet every senior guide before they join the team — verify the license, do a 30-minute mock tour in their claimed languages, check 2-3 references from prior agencies, and make sure the salary + benefits I'm offering actually beats what they had before. We hire 1-2 senior guides per year max. If you want a guide for a specific scenario — a family with mobility needs, a language combination not in the matrix above, a multi-city escort — WhatsApp me directly. I know every guide on this page and I can match you in under an hour.
